Galvanized steel sheet is made by coating a layer of zinc onto the surface of steel sheet to prevent corrosion, thus extending its service life. Galvanizing is a commonly used and economical zinc-plating method, accounting for about half of the world’s zinc production.
Hot-dip galvanized steel sheet is produced by immersing thin steel sheets in a bath of molten zinc, causing a layer of zinc to adhere to their surface. Currently, it is mainly produced using a continuous galvanizing process, where coiled steel sheets are continuously immersed in a bath of molten zinc to produce galvanized steel sheet.
Electro-galvanized steel sheet is manufactured using electroplating. This type of galvanized steel sheet has good workability. However, the coating is thinner, and its corrosion resistance is not as good as that of hot-dip galvanized sheet.
Standard value for zinc coating weight: Zinc coating weight is a commonly used method to express the thickness of the zinc layer on a galvanized sheet. The unit for zinc coating weight is g/m². The formula for calculating galvanized steel sheet weight is: M = 7.85 * length * width * height + zinc layer weight (refer to table) (steel density = 7.85 g/cm³). Galvanized steel sheets are available in two types: cut to fixed lengths and packaged in coils.

In the construction industry, they are mainly used to manufacture galvanized steel roofing panels and roof grids for industrial and civil buildings; in the light industry, they are used to manufacture appliance casings, chimneys, and kitchen utensils; in the automotive industry, they are mainly used to manufacture corrosion-resistant parts for cars; in agriculture, animal husbandry, and fisheries, they are mainly used for grain storage and transportation, and for freezing and processing meat and aquatic products; and in commerce, they are mainly used for material storage, transportation, and packaging.
